It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us in September at Macao, China for the first conference in the world dedicated to discuss, explore and learn about the world of secondary lead.
With a growing focus on recycling it is quite incredible to realise that the lead industry has been conducting such activities for many years to the point where over 65% of the world lead supply comes from secondary sources. One would consider the secondary sector playing the dominant role in discussions in the lead world, but this is not the case, as one finds far more information on mine, concentrates supply and primary production than secondary lead data. This is also the case with technical information on the operations and functions of the smelters and their feed sources, but our aim in hosting this conference is to share and increase knowledge of this vital industry.
This conference will bring together for the first time in the world all aspects of secondary lead smelting; discussing plant design, smelting regimes, refractories, burner design, slag formation and structures, pollution and environmental control amongst other presentations. It is the conference aim to open up all aspects of plant operations and control as to give not only operators, but people interested in secondary smelting a better understanding of the processes involved in the industry.
We are holding this exciting event prior to the 13th Asian Battery Conference, one of the most important lead-acid battery conferences held in the world. Coupling these two events, attendee’s have chance to get the most up-to-date information, trends and breakthroughs across the lead industry.
The pulsating, lively Macao is our host city, on the doorstep of China, the largest lead producing nation in the world. It is with excitement I would like to again extend our warm welcome to what will be an exciting conference and looking forward to seeing you in Macao at the International Secondary Lead Conference.
Program
The secondary lead industry is one of the least understood industries in the metals world, although contributes over sixty percent of the lead supplied every year. The dynamics of this industry are quite different to those of the Primary lead industry, as the varying types of lead recovery methods employed throughout the world for recycling, ranging from clay-lined drums to the latest pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical methods available.
With such a broad range of subjects to discuss, the conference aim is to give all delegates covering many aspects of the industry, including:
- Update of the Lead Market. Outline of the current market and drivers for future direction.
- Hedging. Understanding the complex world of hedging and how it works.
- Plant Design. Update of the latest plant designs and operations including latest work on de-sulphurisation techniques.
- Refractories and Burners. Presentations outlining details on correct operating parameters of critical areas of furnace operations.
- Metallurgy of Lead Smelting and Refining. Outline of the technology behind a smelter.
- Understanding Slags. The various slag systems that are utilized in secondary smelting will be discussed to give delegates a better understanding of a complex subject.
- Environmental Aspects. Covering a wide range of topics from legislation to pollution control.
Some of the leading Analysts, Technicians and Metallurgists in the industry will address the conference, giving each delegate a better understanding of a complex, dynamic industry.
