Please Note: THE WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL
If you are a postgraduate student or an early career researcher attending the 17th Biennial ASAA Conference in Melbourne, please join us at the Postgraduate Workshop that will take place the day before the conference, Monday 30 June 2008. This workshop will not involve the presentation of any postgraduate papers – these are strictly reserved for the ASAA Conference. Instead, it will provide an excellent opportunity for you to meet colleagues from across Australia and beyond engaged in exciting research focused on Asia.
Postgraduate researchers often feel isolated, even more so in a large country such as Australia. Overcome this isolation, build networks with other scholars, and share your ideas and experiences with colleagues from a wide variety of fields and disciplines at the Postgraduate Workshop. Senior scholars and publishers will also be at hand, providing advice on getting a job after the completion of the thesis, publishing the thesis, publishing research articles before thesis completion, preparing a professional resume and other important issues.
Together we will seek to identify the key challenges facing scholars engaged with Asia. We will propose solutions to some of the most pressing issues before us and through advocacy encourage greater political attention on and investment in critical postgraduate research on Asia. We hope to generate recommendations about ‘Creating a pool of Asia experts’ for Australia in the 21st century. Finally, the Postgraduate Workshop aims to build a more effective communication network among Australia-based postgraduate students/early career researchers working on Asia through web-based fora and email lists.
As an honours/postgraduate student/early career researcher, your attendance at the Postgraduate Workshop is included in your registration for ASAA 2008, but seats for the workshop are limited and reservations are essential. Please register before 1 March 2008 in order to take advantage of the special ‘Student Early Bird’ registration offer of AUD 195.00. Please see the registration section of this site for details.
