Welcome to the Australasian Curriculum, Assessment and Certification Authorities Annual Conference.
It is our pleasure to host the conference in Melbourne, Victoria's capital city.
We call on all educators involved in curriculum, assessment and certification to join us at the conference.
A central purpose of the ACACA agencies' curriculum, assessment and certification arrangements for senior secondary students is supporting the development of students' knowledge and skills and helping to prepare pathways for all.
Increasingly this work must be undertaken with reference to national agendas in human capital development and national curriculum.
Through the Ministerial Committee on Education, Employment , Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA) there are already agreed national goals, key learning areas and national testing of students in literacy and numeracy.
Against this background national curriculum could be viewed as a next logical step.
The theme of this year's conference therefore is the how and what of national curriculum. Will it lead to discernible improvements in student learning, or is it more about financial and administrative benefits that might accrue to a single national structure? What should be the parameters of national curriculum and how can it be conceived to contribute to human capital development.
We encourage you to attend the conference and participate in the debate and look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne.
